What an excellent month. The month when it is certain that we have transitioned into a new season. If every month of the year was assigned a time of day, November would be a chilled, moody twilight. 2017 is getting ready for bed, and November is wrapping it in a plaid fleece blanket and handing it a cup of sleepy time tea. The days are getting shorter and I can't say that I'm too upset about it. After all, "it's dark out" is a great excuse to put on my bathrobe at 6 pm and watch a movie with a bowl of soup.
Our dining room is pretty much finished! All that is left is to trim the ceiling. Well I suppose the fireplace needs to be retrofit for some gas logs, but that's a project for a few years from now. Archie really enjoys this room because it's where he gets his breakfast and dinner and about 3 or 4 treats a day. Can't you see the look in his eyes? He's wondering where his milk bone is.
Ryan and I will be hosting friends-giving in this room in a few days! I love hosting people so I am really looking forward to it. Here is me *tentative* menu:
Roast turkey - I make whole roast chicken on the regular, but this will be my first turkey. It can't be that different... right?!?!
Shaved brussel sprout salad - with pine nuts and pomegranate and an orange dressing.
Crispy baked broccoli - splashed with olive oil and plenty of salt.
Cranberry sauce - from a can. We all know it's better that way, don't even try to disagree.
Spinach and cheese puff - from Martha Stewart. I've never had this but it looks BOMB. We will have it after dinner as a snack during the Bengals game.
Pumpkin cheesecake trifle - from My Baking Addiction. Cheesecake is Ryan's favorite and I'm all about Biscoff cookies. YEA
A few of our guests are bringing dishes as well so don't be alarmed by the lack of carbohydrates on my menu.
QUICK PSA: there is a new season of The Great British Bake Off on Netflix! Is it just me or has every contestant in the history of the show been the nicest, coolest person?! Is that just a British thing or what? If and when they make an American version of this show you just know there is going to be a bunch of back stabbing bitches on there switching out people's sugar for salt and crap like that. No, I'll stick with the British version full of support and love, thanks.
